About the Host
Preet Bharara
According to the New York Times, Preet Bharara, who served as U.S. Attorney general between 2009-2017, was one of "the nation's most aggressive and outspoken prosecutors of public corruption and Wall Street crime”. Under Preet, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York prosecuted nearly a hundred Wall Street executives for insider trading and other offenses. He also reached historic settlements with the four largest banks in the U.S. and closed multibillion-dollar hedge funds for activities including insider trading. Additionally, he investigated corruption cases dealing with both Democratic and Republic officials, including New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Preet received national attention early in the Trump Administration when Jeff Sessions asked all 46 U.S. Attorneys appointed under Obama to resign their positions. Preet refused to do so and was subsequently fired. He went on to join NYU’s School of Law as a distinguished scholar in residence, in addition to launching the podcast.
