About the Podcast
WNYC Studios and Futuro Studios present “La Brega: Stories of the Puerto Rican Experience”: a seven-part podcast series that uses narrative storytelling and investigative journalism to reflect and reveal how la brega has defined so many aspects of life in Puerto Rico. Available in English and Spanish. Created by a collective of Puerto Rican journalists, producers, musicians and artists; presented by Alana Casanova-Burgess.

Alana Casanova-Burgess
Alana Casanova-Burgess is a reporter and producer for the Peabody award-winning national public radio show On the Media from WNYC Studios. For the past decade she has been producing audio journalism for WNYC Radio, Her work has also been featured in The Guardian, PRI's The Takeaway, and NPR's Latino USA. In 2018, she was a Livingston Awards finalist for her reporting from the island after Hurricane Maria. Her work has also been recognized by the American Bar Association, The New York Press Club, ONA, PRNDI, and others. She has roots in the Caribbean, Brooklyn, and at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
