About the Host
Ivan Maisel
The award-winning and nationally respected Ivan Maisel has covered college football for ESPN since 2002, writing for ESPN.com and appearing on television and ESPN Radio and on podcasts. In fact, his tenure on the national college football beat is the longest uninterrupted tenure of any writer in the country. Prior to joining ESPN.com in November 2002, Maisel served as a senior writer for Sports Illustrated and CNNSI.com for five years. Maisel also covered national college sports for Newsday from 1994 to 1997, and for The Dallas Morning News from 1987 to 1994, and as a columnist for The Sporting News. Maisel has been honored six times for Best Story by the Football Writers Association of America, including the each of the last three years, most recently for an ESPN.com game story about Oregon’s defeat of Florida State in the 2014 College Football Playoff semifinal. He also shared an award for the Best Enterprise Story from the Associated Press Sports Editors while at Newsday. He served as president of the Football Writers Association of America in 1995. The FWAA honored Maisel in Jan. 2016 with the Bert McGrane Award, the equivalent of the organization’s Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Honors Court, which selects the members of the College Football Hall of Fame for the National Football Foundation. Maisel earned a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Stanford University and is a graduate of Murphy High in Mobile, Ala., which accounts for his lifelong love of college football.
