In addition to his trial experience in state and federal courts, Mr. Torrez has also represented his clients in administrative proceedings, before state agencies such as the Maryland Board of Physicians and the Maryland Board of Education, in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including court-ordered mediation, and in AAA arbitration disputes with eight- and nine-figure sums at stake. Mr. Torrez has briefed and argued numerous appeals before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, on certiorari to the Maryland Court of Appeals, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, as well as in the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the First, Fourth, and District of Columbia Circuits. A 1997 graduate of Harvard Law School with honors, Mr. Torrez has been recognized as a “Local Litigation Star” for the State of Maryland by Benchmark Litigation since 2011, and was previously acknowledged as a “Rising Star” in the region. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Maryland Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and belongs to the Serjant’s Inn and Wranglers law clubs in Baltimore. He was a law clerk to the Hon. Lawrence F. Rodowsky of Maryland’s Court of Appeals, the highest court in the State of Maryland. Mr. Torrez is the author of Off Base: New Insights Into an Old Game, a 1998 book on baseball that anticipated the “statistical revolution” that has changed the game of baseball. Mr. Torrez has gone on to represent and advise professional baseball players and agents in connection with various legal disputes.
